It was amazing to watch how quickly we sold out of “Year One”, just know people are going to be thrilled to own Ramsey Beyer’s newest book. So much love to my peers busting out great work.

everydaypantsnews:

I’ve been kind of quiet in terms of posting new comics online because I’ve been working on a new book, which I just finished! You can preorder it here (at a $5 discount)! This will be a 270 page, hardcover book.

“Told through real-life journals, collages, lists, and drawings, this coming-of-age story illustrates the transformation of an 18-year-old girl from a small-town teenager into an independent city-dwelling college student. Written in an autobiographical style with beautiful artwork, Little Fish shows the challenges of being a young person facing the world on her own for the very first time and the unease—as well as excitement—that comes along with that challenge.”

Coming in September!

Product Details

Reading level: Teen Nonfiction

Paperback: 272 pages

Publisher: Zest Books (September, 2013)

Language: English

ISBN-13: 978-1-936976-18-8

This is my first time working with a publisher and it’s been a really fun and interesting experience. Also, stressful! I cranked out this 270 page book in under 6 months, which is mind-boggling to me since it took me an entire year to draw Year One.

This book was inspired by my zine, List, which I’ve put out for the last ten years. It’s had 15 issues of its own. This isn’t an anthology, however. A large part of the content is entirely new (probably 85% of it), but I did borrow some lists from the earlier issues of my zine that I actually wrote when I was 18 and 19.

I also used entries straight out of my livejournal. I wasn’t sure how to tackle writing about my life as an 18 year old and was pretty afraid it wouldn’t feel authentic. My live journal was key in remembering exactly how I felt back then, and using my actual words as an 18 year old was pretty fun and interesting. I’m glad I had a lot to say back then.

If you’re a Year One reader, this is also the story of how I met Daniel.

Other things I learned about that year: the personal as the political, diy/punk ethics, feminism, privilege, discovered diary comics, made my first zine, etc. This was probably my most formative year in terms of who I am now.

Check it out!

You can also preorder it at:

Palestinian activists have set up another protest camp in the West Bank to demonstrate against what they say is an Israeli land grab.
January 18, 2013

They say they set up a mosque and several tents Friday in the village of Beit Iksa near Jerusalem.

The move comes a week after Palestinian activists set up a similar camp in a strategic West Bank corridor known as E-1 where Israel said it would build a large settlement. The activists were evacuated a day later.

In a statement, activists said they were securing land from Israel.

The Israeli military said soldiers were monitoring the area to prevent disturbances.

The Palestinian activists seem to be adopting a tactic used by Israeli settlers, who establish communities hoping the territory will remain theirs once structures are built.

Matt and Raymie are applying for a marriage license today in Hamblen County Tennessee. This post should be one where I am celebrating that fact that my best friends is getting married today. I should be awaiting for pictures from witnesses at the court house documenting the happy couple signing the license, their reactions to the court making legal their binding love and of course that classic newly married kiss. And this newlywed couple should be able to plan their future knowing that there are new benefits and new securities added to their relationship now that it is recognized by the state.

But this is not that post.

This post is a post to celebrate the fact that today, my best friend and his wonderful partner are apply for a marriage licence in their hometown in Tennessee. And since they live in Tennessee this post is also about the fact that this loving couple will be denied a marriage licences today. Their request will not be recognized by the court and they will be asked to leave. They will not leave today with the pictures I described above. They will not leave today with the with the benefits and reassurances granted to straight married couples. They will not leave today having their love and family recognized by the government.

But they will leaving today knowing that their love is a thread being added to the fabric of this struggle. They will leave today knowing that their life together is a living, breathing inspiration to those around them and all those that will be touched and changed by their story. They will leave today knowing that they are intimately connected to all those who have and will stand where they are standing. They will leave today knowing it is only a matter of time before this unsustainable machine of oppression breaks apart at the seams. They will leave today knowing that their love is brave and fierce. They will leave today knowing that we are winning. They will today having spoken truth to power.

So for all this I celebrate, I celebrate the courage that love and partnership gives us! I raise my coffee mug high to one of the best people I know and his strong, brillant and sweet partner! You guys are badasses and I love you both with all my heart!!

FBI Documents Reveal Secret Nationwide Occupy Monitoring

FBI Documents Reveal Secret Nationwide Occupy Monitoring:

FBI documents just obtained by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) pursuant to the PCJF’s Freedom of Information Act demands reveal that from its inception, the FBI treated the Occupy movement as a potential criminal and terrorist threat even though the agency acknowledges in documents that organizers explicitly called for peaceful protest and did “not condone the use of violence” at occupy protests.

The PCJF has obtained heavily redacted documents showing that FBI offices and agents around the country were in high gear conducting surveillance against the movement even as early as August 2011, a month prior to the establishment of the OWS encampment in Zuccotti Park and other Occupy actions around the country.

“This production, which we believe is just the tip of the iceberg, is a window into the nationwide scope of the FBI’s surveillance, monitoring, and reporting on peaceful protestors organizing with the Occupy movement,” stated Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, Executive Director of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF). “These documents show that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are treating protests against the corporate and banking structure of America as potential criminal and terrorist activity. These documents also show these federal agencies functioning as a de facto intelligence arm of Wall Street and Corporate America.”

“The documents are heavily redacted, and it is clear from the production that the FBI is withholding far more material. We are filing an appeal challenging this response and demanding full disclosure to the public of the records of this operation,” stated Heather Benno, staff attorney with the PCJF.
